A Road Trip from Coimbatore to Ooty Turns into a Simple, Fun Lesson on Break of Structure [BoS]

The Cool Morning Drive Begins

The sun had just started to peek over the trees as Arun and his cousin Karthi drove out of Coimbatore toward Ooty. The cool morning breeze slipped through the half-open window, carrying the smell of eucalyptus even before the hills appeared. Arun was at the wheel, humming to an old Ilaiyaraaja song, while Karthi sat with a packet of murukku, already making crumbs everywhere.

“Machan, you’re always talking about charts and candles,” Karthi said, crunching loudly. “Today, since we’re stuck together for three hours, you must explain one thing properly — what is that BOS you keep shouting about?” Arun laughed. “Break of Structure, da! Okay, today you’ll learn it without looking at a single chart. Only using this road trip.”

Understanding BOS with Every Turn

As they moved up the winding roads past Mettupalayam, Arun pointed ahead. “See that white car in front? For the last ten minutes, it’s been going slow in its lane. That’s like the market moving in one direction — a structure.”

Karthi nodded, wiping murukku powder from his shirt.

“Now watch,” Arun said, shifting gears. “If I overtake this car and take a new lane properly, that means I’ve broken the old structure and started a new one. That’s a BOS — the moment price goes beyond a previous high or low.”

Right at that moment, a sharp bend came up, and the GPS calmly announced, “Rerouting.” Arun smiled. “Exactly! Even the GPS updates the route only when we break the old path. Until then, it just says ‘continue straight.’ Market also does the same. It changes direction only after breaking the previous structure.”

Karthi’s eyes widened. “Ayyo, that means BOS is just like when we cross the old route and start a new track ah?” Arun nodded proudly. “Correct da! You got it.”

The Aha Moment on the Hilltop

By the time they reached the viewpoint, the mist had settled beautifully over the hills. They parked the car and stepped out, stretching their legs as monkeys watched them from the trees. Karthi looked thoughtful. “So basically, BOS is like when we stop following the old cousin’s stubborn idea and take a better route.”

Arun burst out laughing. “Correct. Market also doesn’t follow stubborn routes forever.”

Karthi grinned. “Machan, I finally understood BOS. Next time you shout ‘Break of Structure,’ I won’t think you’re yelling at the car.”

As they got back into the car, Karthi added, “But one thing da… even if market breaks structure, your driving structure will never break — you’ll still drive like an old uncle.”

Arun shook his head. “Get in the car, Eruma,” he said, laughing as they continued their trip up the hills.
